The boys went and played NCAA D2 #20 ranked Midwestern State last week. Great showcase for the guys as they had a tough day and lost 4-3. The girls played in a 7v7 tournament where they went undefeated, beating SAGU, Letourneau, and Eastfield.

Congrats to Max for being awarded the first Ray Roberts Award
Men's soccer player Max Naranjo recently
received the Ray Roberts Award, for his on- and off-the-field
involvement in the college’s soccer program.
The Ray Roberts Award goes to a second-year
Hill College student athlete, who throughout their tenure with the
college, has consistently demonstrated a passion for the success of the
college. They also have a personal commitment to the advancement and
improvement of the college, a selfless effort to support and better
their teammates and peers, a strong work ethic in both the classroom and
athletic endeavors and a positive demeanor and excellent character.
Hill College soccer coach Paul Davenport said that Naranjo started every game for the last two years for the Rebels, leading the team on the greatest run in the program’s history.
Davenport said, “Max performed consistently all year, serving the program selflessly regardless of the task assigned to him. He never missed a single practice, study hall or team meeting.”

Championship Year for both teams
Hill Soccer had a great year in 2014, both teams won the Region for the first time ever! For the girls it is their second Region Championship, first since 2008. For the guys it is their first ever. The guys were not done with winning the Region though, they went on to win the District and named Plains District Champions. After that they advanced to the National Championship tournament where they went undefeated beating the #2 team Illinois Central and drawing with #7 Trinidad State finishing group play tied for 1st and being knocked out by goal differential. The boys finished tied for 5th at Nationals.
Easy to say that Hill Soccer is on the national radar now after this year. Each team had a player named National Player of the Year. The boys finished the year ranked in the top National Poll.

2014 Season has begun
The Hill Soccer teams had great training camps and achieved a lot within the first two weeks of training. The boys had a very strong start to their pre-season by beating Texas Wesleyan (D1 NAIA) 4-0 and then Howard Payne (D3 NCAA) 8-0. The first game for both teams were unfortunate losses to Richland who were ranked #6 (womens) and #3 (mens) in the national polls. However, both teams quickly rebounded yesterday with a complete sweep over Mountain View; the girls won 5-0 and the guys won 3-2. Next game is Friday for the home opener versus

Women off to the Regional Final
The women's team beat Western 3-0 in the regional semi-final; yesterday giving them a spot against regional rival Cisco for the regional championship tomorrow night. The women dominated Western from the start and never looked back; with early high pressure the Rebels forced Western into an own goal and then later Dani Garcia scored to make it 2-0 at halftime. Ariel Marroquin sealed the game early in the second half and the women look good going into the regional championship.
The men's team fell to Ranger yesterday in the regional semi-final; despite not having the full roster for the game; it was one of the best hard fought games the coaches have ever seen. The men never quit fighting and played like champions; the boys ended up losing in pk shootout after a final score of 3-3. The men still achieved the best record in school history and also accomplished the first back to back winning seasons ever. This team always had faith and patience and they will always be known for winning!
