Women off to the Regional Final

The women's team beat Western 3-0 in the regional semi-final; yesterday giving them a spot against regional rival Cisco for the regional championship tomorrow night. The women dominated Western from the start and never looked back; with early high pressure the Rebels forced Western into an own goal and then later Dani Garcia scored to make it 2-0 at halftime. Ariel Marroquin sealed the game early in the second half and the women look good going into the regional championship.

The men's team fell to Ranger yesterday in the regional semi-final; despite not having the full roster for the game; it was one of the best hard fought games the coaches have ever seen. The men never quit fighting and played like champions; the boys ended up losing in pk shootout after a final score of 3-3. The men still achieved the best record in school history and also accomplished the first back to back winning seasons ever. This team always had faith and patience and they will always be known for winning!

Yesterday was the last regular season games of the year; against regional rivals Ranger. On the girls' side it was a massive game due to the fact that whoever won would continue on their season and gain a spot in next week's regional tournament. The girls got the first goal by a composed finish by Ariel Marroquin; giving us a 1-0 lead at halftime. The girls maintained their compusre in the second half has Ranger tried shots from really far out; the girls put the game away with Olivia Garcia's finishing a breakaway and giving us a 2-0 lead. Shortly after Olivia was taken down in the box and Ariel Marroquin took the pk and got her second goal of the day and finished the game off 3-0. The girls now play Western Texas next Monday in the Regional semi-finals!

The boys game started off with some of our best passing and defensive shape all year; and that was quickly paid off with Charlie Ojeda scoring the first goal. Junior Olague then scored a goalazo from a free-kick and we went into the half up 2-1. Second half was much of the same with us controlling the game; Ebun Odubonojo and TJ Marino both scored two great header goals and sealed the game off 4-1; our biggest win over Ranger in school history! Last Home Games of the Season

This past Friday the Rebels played their last home games for this year; the men took on SWAU and the women took on region rival Cisco. The men played first and got things off started with continuing their winning streak to 3 in a row with a final score of 7-1 over SWAU. The women played their biggest rival Cisco in a vital regional game; from the start the Rebels controlled the game and had numerous chances to score then a great run by Olivia Garcia and an even better cross gave Tori Little the first goal of the game. It looked like we would go into the half with a 1-0 lead; however with the official adding on time in the first half Cisco got a goal off a deflection in the 47th minute of the first half. A back in forth second half saw the score end 2-2 and then two overtime periods weren't enough to settle a winner. The women played with heart and pride and everyone is very excited now if we can beat Ranger on Tuesday we will go to the regional tournament with 100% confidence that we can win it all!

NEO is no match for the Rebels

Northeastern Oklahoma came into town yesterday and never had a chance against the Rebels. The women got things started with an offensive outburst winning 11-1. Tori Little and Kayla Ahenakew both had hat tricks; and Dani Garcia had a goal with three assists along side Olivia Garcia who also had three assists. The men followed with a 2-1 win; Ebun Odubonojo got a goal to take the lead. Then NEO tried to respond with a second half goal but the Rebels squashed that with a goal by Gabe Vera to end the game 2-1.

It was a good day to be Rebel. The women have confidence going into the crucial upcoming regional games and the men got a much needed game after 11 days off.

Next home games are this Friday; men play SWAU at 2PM and women follow with Cisco at 4PM.

Regional Rivalry with Western TX

This past Friday the teams took on regional rival Western TX here at home. The girls played hard and had numerous chances each half to get the much deserved win; however, just came up short after Western scored two goals late in the second half.

The boys made program history by beating Western 3-2; it is the first time ever the boys team has knocked off WTC! Charles Ojeda got things started with a goal in the 2nd minute off a freekick taken by Jose Jaimes. At halftime it was 1-1 and then we went down 2-1; however, the second half and the day would always be Hill's, Charles Ojeda sent in a great cross to Gabe Vera who finished it off with what could be described as a diving header. Then Charles Ojeda added to his tally by scoring the game winner in the 72nd minute and giving him two goals and an asisst on the day; he now has three goals and an assit in the the last three games!

Everyone played with heart on Friday and showed the program motto of faith and patience. The coaching staff is extremely proud of both teams!

Big Road Trip to Oklahoma

Both teams travelled to Oklahoma this past Saturday to play Northern Oklahoma. It was a long trip taking over 5 hours to get there; however, you wouldnt know by the way both teams played. The girls started the day off with what could be their best performance all year. Dani Garcia scored the first goal from 20+ yards out and the girls fought the whole game. Even when the girls went down a man in the first OT period they continued playing great and finished the game after 110 minutes 1-1 draw. Great job ladies.

The boys then followed with an offensive explosion; scoring 4 goals in the first 30 minutes. Gabe Vera opened the scoring with a great finish from Michael Solis' pass. Then Preston Haught had a great one touch pass to Nick Zuniga who finished the play off with a even better shot. Gabe Vera then got his second goal of the game from a shot over 25+ yards out. Charles Ojeda then finished Northern Oklahoma off with a one touch shot from 25+yards to the far upper ninety of the goal. The boys then just maintained the game and never let NOC back into it. Great job boys!

Strong Friday Night Showing

This past Friday night the teams traveled to Paris JC and came away with some good results. The women got their 3rd win in a row after beating the Lady Dragons 2-1; both goals were from sophomore Ariel Marroquin. The women were able to score in the first three minutes of the game and held Paris to only one goal; a season low for them. The men had a very rough start to their game; after numerous calls going against them including a PK and a red card; the men were down 2-0 at halftime and down a man. In the first two minutes of the second half the men got a goal back off an acrobatic bicycle kick from freshmen Jackson Weddle. The men dominated the second half down a man and nearly scored the equalizer numerous times; however, were not able to get the goal we needed and ended losing 2-1. The staff considers this a win in our book because of how good the boys played down a man with everything going against us. Job well done for both teams!

Rivalarly Day versus Ranger College

One of the biggest rivalries we have is with Ranger College and both teams were able to come away with the first conference win of the year. The women won their game 5-1 and the men won their battle 1-0. This is always a tough game because of Ranger's determination and desire to knock us off. Each of our teams continue their winning streak over Ranger to 4 games now spanning back to 2012!The girls improve to being 2-2 on the year and 1-0 in conference; while the men improve to 3-0 on the year and 1-0 in conference, one of the best starts in men's history!

2013 Season off to a good start

The 2013 season kicked off the other week with away game at Nationally ranked Richland College in Dallas. The women took on #5 Richland women and almost came away with a great win but fell short in the dying minutes of the game; the men took on #6 Richland men and began the season with a great double OT win 1-0. This is the second year in a row the Rebel men have knocked off Nationally ranked Richland; this time we did at their place. It looks like it could be a strong year for both Rebel Soccer teams as we look to make history and claim both Region 5 titles. Training Camp was a lot of hard work and #faithandpatience we hope to see that hard work pay off in the month of November!
